Triangle Wrecks
Two shipwrecks sitting 200 yards off the Kill Devil Hills beach near Milepost 7 — the American tanker Kyzikes, which sank in 1927, and the Swedish freighter Carl Gerhard, which sank in 1929 and struck the Kyzikes wreckage on the way down, splitting it in two. Both sit in about 20 feet of water with boilers, hull plates, and engines visible. A popular dive site for certified divers — not recommended for beginners due to Atlantic currents and conditions.
