The Mother Vine

Believed to be the oldest living grapevine in North America, the Mother Vine on Roanoke Island is estimated to be 400 years old — possibly planted by Croatoan Native Americans or the Lost Colonists themselves. Still alive and producing grapes, stretching 30 feet by 120 feet in a private front yard in Manteo. Free to view, visitors welcome to park and look. One of the most quietly extraordinary living pieces of American history on the entire OBX.
