Run Hill State Natural Area
A 125-acre protected sand dune and maritime forest in Kill Devil Hills that most OBX visitors never find. No trails, no visitor center, no facilities — just a small sign on 10th Avenue and a dirt parking strip for three cars. Climb the dune for spectacular views, explore the freshwater ponds at the base, and watch turkey vultures soar on the updrafts overhead. One of the most genuinely wild and beautiful natural spaces on the entire OBX.
