From May through October, loggerhead sea turtles nest on OBX beaches — and if you're lucky enough to witness hatchlings emerge and make their run to the ocean, it's one of the most genuinely moving free experiences the Outer Banks offers. Walk the beach around sunset and look for N.E.S.T. volunteers monitoring marked nests. If you find one, sit down and join them — they love having visitors.
